Last year in November, there were more than 1200 Hungarian supporters who expressed their intention to join the “Support a child!” program, which supports a Filipino child with 3000 HUF per month. The children temporarily lived in institutions, until some of their parents were found in the midst of the chaos after the catastrophe. Many children whose parents were not found, were adopted by their closest relatives.

Under the leadership of Dr. Béla Szilágyi, Vice-President, the team of HBAid met with some of the children in the slum area of Tacloban. From them, two girls, six-year-old Maricar Elepa and fifteen-year-old Marissa Onlang received personal gifts from their Hungarian supporters.

During the second visit, the team distributed 150 water purifier equipments for families living in the 36th district, and they also taught people how to use the ceramic filters. The specialists of HBAid also visited San Antonio, a settlement 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the city, where the storm entirely destroyed a kindergarten and an elementary school that provided education for 200 children. According to plans, these two buildings will be rebuilt by the Hungarians.
